We made a brief trip to the outlet mall and was not impressed. There was not any stores that I really cared to see but it was a huge mall with four stories. My shin splint was excruciating today. I wanted to cry. I was really afraid that I couldn’t even walk. Somehow I managed to get through the day. It was honestly a miracle, you have no idea how much pain I was in.
On to the Garden District. I had most been looking forward to going here. It was a portion I had done in our E-travel guide and was the most appealing location to me. I would love to see the Garden District when it is in full bloom. The Oak trees were massive. The air felt a little lighter here. We were dropped off on Magazine Street. It was filled with all kinds of little shops. We were able to walk through easily without fighting crowd of people. Homeless people were not lined up on the sidewalks. The air was more fresh because there wasn’t herds of people smoking. The shops were a little nicer and appeared to be better quality merchandise. Every shop we went in the people were very friendly. We were offered a piece of king cake at our cost stop. King cake is handed out for the start of Carnival season.
We learned that there was going to be a parade in town. We rushed back to get some warmer clothes, because it had gotten cooler. The parade was representing Joan of Arc.
Parade fun
Angels in the parade
Kids on stilts in the parade
The community gets all dressed up and follow behind the girls who is designated as Joan of Arc. They parade through the street. I like how the parade helps to bring the community and tourist together.
So my friends and I got a little crazy and went and got a tattoo while we were here! CRAZY!!! We have been talking about it for awhile and we thought what better place then while we are all on this trip together. I feel like this trip has brought us closer together and helped give us a better understanding of each other and others. We got arrows that stands for courage as we continue to move forward in our nursing careers, defense and protection from harm because I know all these girls have my back if I need them!! I cannot believe it was so easy to walk in and get a tattoo. We did not have to have an appointment here. People just come in off the street and get it down. Another person in our group got one done at the same parlor. I think that is just explains how free this city is with everything. There are not as many boundaries as there are back at home and people for the most part get along and just go with the flow. Everyone appears to be laid back and carefree.
