Inner Journey 01/07/18

Today started off as an emotional day.  Walking through the museum dedicated to the events of hurricane Katrina.  I couldn't help but feel helpless and like I should have done something.  I didn't know that the impact was as great as it was.  It is something that is so surreal.  I don't think that anyone could understand the devastation like the people that lived through it.  It reminded me of the tornado that had ripped through Washington, IL a few years ago.  That natural disaster seemed horrific and was minimal compared to the impact Katrina left.

We also visited the Louisiana State Museum Cabildo today.  The Cabildo was the seat of Spanish colonial government in New Orleans.  I am not a fan of history, but I love looking at the displays.  Sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong era because I can picture life during those days.  I loved the way women wore those big ol dresses.  The armoire was magnificent.  I love the huge solid furniture, the Victorian style homes, and the dedication woman had to their families.  I know there is plenty of negatives from those days but I feel a connection of some sort.

Another one of my favorites from this exhibit was Napoleons sword.

My friends were not having fun at this exhibit until we stopped at this sword.  I said can you imagine men walking around carrying these swords back in the day.  To think that this is the way that people would fight and die.  I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to have to ram a sword into another person and have to pull it out.  They all just looked at me.  They had never taken the time to stop and think about it in that way.

The same when we hit the piano.  I could picture someone sitting at the piano playing some fun loud music girls hanging around it singing loudly while men where sloshing beers and whiskey down the hatch.

Friends always make site seeing and museum tours more fun!  We all learned more about history because different things intrigued us about the history.  Everyone takes away something different from their experience and it helps to enlighten everyone's overall view.  I can't wait to read other people's blogs to see what they took from the tours.  The day ended early and it made me sad thinking that was our last class experience.  I felt like there was so much more about the city that I needed to know.
